The new Illu-Float sensor from Fosstech is developed in corporation with the Institute of Marine Research (IMR) in Bergen, with the purpose of giving valuable information to the skipper concerning Purse Seine net behavior during night fishing.
The Illu-Float sensor contains a light module with exceptional visibility in relation to power consumption. More than 50 hours operation can be expected before need of recharging. The sensor housing is made of a combination of float material and a robust outer layer, securing mechanical strength during shooting of the net and when going through the Triplex. The outer jacket can be replaced when damaged like other floats on the net. The size and weight of the Illu-Float sensor is optimized for use together with normal floats on the Purse Seine net.
On and off is automatically controlled by a combination of a sea water switch and a light sensor, optimizing battery lifetime. The Illu-Float sensor can be placed anywhere on the Purse seine net as a reference point or multiple sensors giving the skipper detailed information about the net geometry during the haul.
