Statens vegvesen and Traftec are leading organisations within the development, operation and maintenance of Norwegian infrastructure. Together, they contribute to safe, modern and functional roads and traffic installations across the country, with high requirements for quality, robustness and operational reliability.
The challenge
Road and bridge lighting in Norway must withstand demanding conditions, including snow, ice, low temperatures, moisture and repeated winter maintenance. Previously installed lighting broke during the first snowfall, creating a need for a more robust and reliable solution suited to long-term use in harsh environments.
Fosstech's contribution
Fosstech delivered the development and production of robust LED lighting and electronic solutions designed to withstand harsh Norwegian winter conditions.
In the first phase of the project, Fosstech produced encapsulated ground electronics, LED drivers, high-power LED modules and power supply cables for LED lighting installed along the E6. In the second phase, Fosstech developed and manufactured five-metre encapsulated LED light strips and driver boxes for Øvre Sund Bridge in Drammen.
The solutions combined Fosstech's experience in LED technology, electronics development and encapsulation to protect critical components and improve reliability in demanding environments.
The result
Where previous equipment failed, Fosstech's solutions have operated reliably through several winters, including exposure to snow, ice, freezing temperatures and snowplough operations.The result was a durable and long-lasting lighting solution designed to meet strict requirements for service life, quality and operational reliability.
The project is another example of Fosstech's ability to develop and manufacture robust LED and electronic solutions for demanding infrastructure applications.
